Practice Phonics and Fluency Skills with a Roll and Read Game

Phonics and Fluency Skill Practice with Roll and Read Games

Roll and read games are a hands-on and an engaging way to practice phonics and fluency skills. Players use dice to read a list of words targeted around a specific phonics skill(s). I love using these Roll and read games because they are low prep, engaging, and can be used all year long. Roll and read games can be played independently or with a partner. They can be used as seat work, center work, or small group work. The options are truly endless!

I’m always looking for new ways to engage my little learners while developing their phonics and fluency skills and that is why I created three new roll and read games! They are easy to prepare and require very little materials. My students beg to play these and are eager to see which one we are playing next.

Roll and Read Game

Roll and read games can be played in a variety of ways. They can be played independently, with a partner, or a small group of players. To begin, the first player will roll a die and find the list of words that corresponds with that number. The player will read the list of words. Depending on the game, they will color in a star or move their game piece.
