Meet the Teacher Night and Open House
You’ve spent countless hours preparing your classroom and are ready to meet your students and families! If you are anything like me, you are anxiously waiting to meet the 20+ smiling faces that you will spend the school year with. Every year on Meet the Teacher Night, the butterflies start to settle in. I can’t help but feel nervous and excited all at the same time!
My first couple years of teaching, I put together a big presentation in hopes that families would show up right on time to take their seats. Well, that wasn’t the case. Families are busy, and to show up right on time can be a difficult thing to do, especially with other siblings. So, for the past few years, I have used stations during Meet the Teacher Night.
Meet the Teacher Night or Open House Stations
One of my favorite Meet the Teacher Night or Open House themes is lemonade! There is nothing more refreshing than a glass of cold lemonade!
Prior to the big night, I print and laminate all the station signs and donation lemons I plan on using. I also go ahead and print the parent forms and the station check list for the families. The check sheet ensures families that they visit every station. I have these ready by my door where I greet the families.
Stations
These stations are in no particular order. Families are allowed to move through the stations at their own pace and will use the check sheet to check off the stations they went to.
Welcome - Sign In : This is where parents will write their child’s name and their name. This allows me to see who showed up at the end of the night. I display the welcome sign next to the sign in sheet and on the screen projector.
Transportation : This one is SO important! I have two main goals for the first school day. Those goals are to make sure the kids get to lunch on time and get home the right way. On the transportation sheet, parents will fill in how their child gets home from school on the first day and on a normal day.
Student Information : Parents will fill in an information sheet about their child. I save all these and place them in a binder.
Supplies : You may not need this one if students come without any supplies. However, every year it seems like I have a few students who want to bring all their “big” items such as, Clorax Wipes, hand sanitizer, etc. Having a space for these is so helpful! I simply put out big bins or designate an area to collect these items.
Volunteers : Parent volunteers deserve all the praise! I highly recommend utilizing your parent volunteers. They can be so helpful! The form also me to see when parents are able to volunteer and what they prefer to do.
Donations : “When life gives you lemons…” I lay out donation lemons for families to pick up if they would like to donate an item(s) to our class.
Lemonade Stand : At a table, I fill some lemonade cups with pink lemonade. Families can grab a cup and enjoy!

The Meet the Teacher Night and Open House stations also come in a Donut Theme! This is such a sweet way to welcome families for the new year. Families can enjoy a small donut while visiting your classroom. You can grab the Donut Meet the Teacher Night Open House Stations HERE.
Meet the Teacher or Back to School Open House Digital Slides
Meet the Teacher or Back to School Open House Slides are the perfect (and simplest) way to welcome your new students and families either in the classroom or virtually. Having everything you want to say typed out and ready to go makes the night run smoothly. I don’t know about you, but I can get quite anxious and jittery when welcoming 20+ families for the new year. It’s such an exciting time!
Digital slides are easy to display on your screen in the classroom or you can send the digital link via email (or another platform) directly to your families. I have actually done both before! I will present the slides to my new families in the classroom and then send an email with the link. Families appreciate this because it gives them time to review and digest all the information.
The Meet the Teacher and Back to School Open House Slides are available in PowerPoint and Google Slides. You can easily edit, move, and delete slides as needed to create a perfect night for your families.
